Post Covid trends

What do you think about current trends in business and leadership? Could you offer your perspective on how businesses can navigate these trends?

Following Covid, the recruitment market seemed to be weighted towards candidates so businesses could rebuild or accelerate plans and objectives. This did mean that some businesses ended up with high levels of attrition when the recruitment market re-balanced. There seems to be more of a trend to recruit on “fit” of the candidate in the business environment and culture rather than filling roles quickly with someone with the required experience. High levels of attrition can be costly due to both gaps in capability and the time hiring managers need to invest in the process to get the right candidates, however low levels of attrition can leave businesses stale with limited innovation or new perspectives. If you feel you would benefit from, finding candidates who better fit within your business and culture Leaders should:

Collect feedback from leavers; this should be reviewed to understand the experience within the workplace of all employees. If leavers don’t provide feedback this is likely to be a message and should be investigated.

If you don’t already collect feedback through engagement surveys or round table discussions, talk to the high performers and long service team members to understand what it is like for them to work at your company and what they would say to perspective role candidates.
Capture something that is representative of your Company culture if it isn’t documented already. Leaders will have a perspective on this, in order to get a more fully representative view, you should engage with a range of employees, customers and suppliers and any other important stakeholders.

Spend time planning before recruitment starts to ensure job descriptions and adverts represent the Company and aren’t too generic. Do the job descriptions and adverts match the vision or strategy of your Business? And do they represent the culture?
